Thanks for finding your way to DorkoTech! My name is Jason Dorko and I am a Biology student at Oakland University. I love technology and the medical industry and hope to one day combine these two passions, hopefully by entering into pharmaceutical or medical sales. I blog about both these industries as well as using technology to help students overcome the many difficulties associated with school. My life goal has always been to make a difference and help people as much as I can. Whether this be by helping someone overcome a medical disability, or helping a fellow student discover how to use a Tablet PC to study smarter, I find great comfort in helping others. The Idea Behind DorkoTech
The reason for this site is that it gives me an outlet to share my knowledge and discoveries dealing with the issues that matter to me. By sharing such things I hope to have some kind of positive effect on as many individuals as I can. I can accomplish this goal in many forms. For example I can inform students about the best applications for studying, link to new technologies that I feel will make a difference in our lives, or just provide sources of information and news that allow you to sit back, relax, and share my similar interests.
I have also witnessed a lot of holes in the use of technology at my particular school. Another big task I would to like to tackle is a site dedicated to the students of Oakland University. Here I would like to offer digital notes, and lecture recordings for everyone just in case you missed a class and all handouts in an easily to download pdf format. I also plan to post my old tests and quizzes for easy access to students who would like to use them as study tools in their current classes. Lessons learned and study notes about each class I've taken are all goals I would like to include in this project as well. As a former pre-dental student and currently as a biology major I know classes are hard and time is limited. I hope to offer resources to help in both those departments. So keep in touch as I will slowly be adding those as time progresses as well.
My Favorite Technologies
My ultimate and favorite tool is the Tablet PC. I was fascinated with them since their introduction and I always questioned why more students did not use them. I finally took the leap and after much research came to the conclusion that Lenovo's X41 Tablet PC was the perfect tool for me. Since then I have fallen in love with Tablet PCs and the technologies that surround them. I also think Tablet PCs and other similar technologies can have profound effects in the medical industry and I hope to one day become involved in the introduction, development and use of such technologies. I feel this will allow doctors and other healthcare professionals to provide improved and more effective healthcare to their patients.
After becoming aquatinted with Tablet PCs I have now devoted much effort into seeking the best tools and software applications to be be used in conjunction with Tablet PCs. Current software choices include OneNote, MindManager and GoBinder in addition to numerous others.
Final Thoughts
I will continue to look for technology that I feel can benefit students, doctors, as well as everyone else. I love hearing stories about those that really find my site interesting and informative and were able to take something away and apply it to their own lives.
I do have classes and studying like every other student so please keep this in mind if I go through periods with few updates. However I guarantee that I am dedicated to this project and want it to work.
