But can yours do this?

So I have a friend that is heading off to Graduate School in a few months and had decided it's time for a new laptop. He went with a new MacBook Pro and came to me all excited about it today. He was bragging about cool it was and how superior of a laptop it really is. Now I would have said that's awesome what a great machine, I really like that they use Intel Chips yada yada. But then he decided to throw down the hammer. "Yeah and it's way cooler than that little black thing you have!" And then it was on!

I was up for a little rebuttal and of course had to defend my Lenovo X41 Tablet as I take great pride in it. The argument went back and forth and we compared processor vs weight ratio, screen size, the Mac OS vs Windows, software choices and a whole bunch of boring specifications that only computer geeks would care about. They really are two totally different machines and have different places but that battle raged on.

Weight vs power became a hot issue. One is light and thus sacrifices power and a smaller screen while the other is more powerful and has a bigger screen but weighs more and has a shorter battery life. Although I wish mine was more powerful I would not want something that weighed more and had less battery life. The debate continued until finally I had remembered the single best thing about my tablet.

From within my nice lightweight bag I retrieved my tablet and said fine yours may have more aesthetic appeal but when it comes down to things that REALLY matter mine has yours beat. He starred at me puzzled for a second and then I muttered that famous Tablet user phrase, "But can yours do this?" I then proceeded to rotate my convertible tablet to slate mood and began writing on the digitizer. I had it recognize some text and then sat there ready for his rebuttal. He sat there beaten in his chair with nothing more to say for no matter how powerful his machine was it would never be able to handle the feat I had just performed.

Score one more for us Tablet Users!

Of course if Apple did introduce a Tablet PC I guarantee you I would in line for one. But for now there is no substitute for a Tablet PC and the Tablet PC OS!
