Loaded Schedule and One Trip to ER

Yes another two weeks has sped past without much posting. I am aware of this and it troubles me greatly as I really wish I had more time to devote to this blog. However this time around the busy schedule wasn't the only thing deterring my devotion to DorkoTech, but instead a few days in the hospital with a spontaneous pneumothorax stood in my way .

I'm alright and nearly fully recovered after spending much of least week tied down to a vacuum and I thank all of those that sent their best wishes for a quick recovery. I still get a bit winded from what seems like miniscule obstacles compared to my once 7 am regime of working out but I know the recovery process will take some time and I must be patient.

So what's on the road ahead for me and DorkoTech?
There are only two more weeks of school, and I must concentrate fully in order to make up for lost time and pierce through these last few difficult biology classes but after that I look forward to spending a bit more time with friends and family and hopefully working on some new Dorko Demo's.

I also look forward to the New Year as it will truly be a "new year" for me! Graduating in 2007, fighting fellow recent graduates for that lucrative jobs, as well as finishing off my undergrad a bit more business orientated as I have only one biology credit required should all equate to some very new experiences. I should be able to also concentrate and publish more here at DorkoTech as I will hopefully be taking classes that sing a tune my neurons can dance to and won't be hard pressed to read through those sometimes difficult science reports.

Thanks again for everyone's support and I look forward to the many new items I plan to share in the future! Now I just have to get finish off these darn term papers!

GottaBeMobile.com: The Ultimate source for Lenovo X60 Tablet PC Converage

As much as I already love what I am hearing about Lenovo's new X60 ThinkPad Tablet PC I would love it even more if I had one in my hands to play with! However we all have this wish (or at least many of us) and I don't think Lenovo plans to start shipping our free samples any time soon. So the next best alternative for acquiring info on the Lenovo X60Tablet PC (other than that X60 site itself) is without question GottaBeMobile.com

First off, GottaBeMobile.com has been one of my long time favorite sites for technology news and everything mobile including Tablet PCs. I no longer have the leisure of sitting down and surfing the internet sporadically looking for exciting news in the mobile tech world so I make the most of my time and check in with the guys at GottaBeMobile.com.

They also have great GBM Inkshows and coverage on the some of the newest and greatest gadgets and software. Their latest coverage on the Lenovo X60 is a perfect example of the skill, thought, and dedication that goes into each Inkshow materpiece. If you want live coverage with in depth reviews of the Lenovo's newest and greatest machine, GottaBeMobile.com is the place to go!

Lenovo X60 Tablet PC! I'm so Excited!

I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it! I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!

Why all the excitement? Well technology always brings out the little kid in me and seems to trigger a part of my neural cortex that just wants to dance YEAH! New electronics and gadgets just seem to always take me to this utopia where all my technology dreams become a reality. Well Lenovo has assisted tremendously in this dream with their latest release of the new X60 Tablet PC!

I own and use a Lenovo X41 Tablet PC everyday as a student to take notes, record lectures, make presentations, and create those adventurous mind maps. As a student with a Tablet PC, for over a year now, I have observed and shared with numerous others the benefits a Tablet PC can provide. I even ran a Tablet PC consulting operation for some time where I would help students pick out the Tablet PC best suited for them and then most importantly demonstrate how to take advantage of all the features a Tablet PC can provide.

My tablet is essentially a 3.2 lb 100+ subject notebook, a collection of digital highlighters and pens that not even staples can compete with, a digital voice and lecture recorder that not only captures all those important in class moments but also sync's them with my class notes and most importantly allows me to easily play Sudoku and browse the internet from my bed without a mouse!

I can go on and on but the Lenovo X41 Tablet PC has been at the center of all this. It has created numerous opportunities that has introduced me to people, groups, and companies I would have never dreamed of! It was even the motivation for this entire DorkoTech site and blog at one point in time. Sure all of this would have happened with just about any Tablet PC purchase , as I would like to think my entrepreneurship personality offered some contributions, but my X41 has been there since day one. I've talked numerously about the things I like (and don't like) about it on this blog and will continue to share those experiences.

But it has been over a year now...and it seems my Tablet is ready to grow up. Lenovo's introduction of the X60 brings a whole new level to the Tablet PC community. Their first go at tablets really made people look at tablets differently (if only Microsoft could get it right the first time...) . No longer were they seen as funny expensive laptops that had rotating screens but instead emerged as ultra portables that could keep up with the rest of their competitors in any business, medical or academic field but also offered the option to do all this with a pen! The X60 will continue to improve on this perception and I eagerly look forward to the day when I can afford to trade in my X41 for what should be one of the best new tablets out there!

The reason for my excitement I guess should be quite clear...If the X41, as my partner in business, has established the foundation for my most recent success, imagine the effect an X60 in my hands will have in the future...

Toshiba Tablet PC To Have Newgen Healthcare Solution

"The combination is meant for doctors, medical professionals and practitioners requiring anytime, anywhere access to documents."

I've always known there to be many great software packages for doctors and the medical community, but having the hardware distributor (Toshiba in this case) actually creating and developing their own health care solutions is something entirely new for me. Motion Computing has been the best at working with doctors and such software companies, that tailor their applications towards the medical community, but they never took the leap to develop the applications themselves. I don't criticize this behavior though as the market here is still quite isolated. However we are all witnesses to this digital transformation that is rapidly occurring. Digital X-ray, paperless records, online access to your health care records, it is all shaping the medical community into a digital interconnected network. As a MIS minor I am quickly learning how these systems and technologies can improve the care doctors can provide and assist them in their everyday diagnosis and I am excited at the numerous opportunities they will provide.

Indeed the Tablet PC is now a major player in this transformation and I look forward to see which other hardware companies realize the true potential of this market. I do tip my hat, for the moment, to Toshiba for their dedication to the the medical community and look forward to see exactly where they proceed with this.

Mind Mapping the Dictionary? Thinkmap Visual Thesaurus

Communication is a wonderful thing! Expressing ideas and thoughts with words is a talent that I am always trying to expand and develop. During my quest for some sophisticated words to decoreate my latest report with I found my way to Visual Thesaurus. It's a very intutive approach to promote the exploration of new words and the fact that it displays the whole thing as a mind map allows you to get lost in a web of dantalizing new words that will have the neurons in your brain firing off like a 4th of July fireworks show.

Visual Thesaurus is created with ThinkMap, which is another mind mapping program that allows you develop ideas. It's a bit more on the technical side and MindManager can run circles around it (in my opinion) but it is a cool approach.

Take Note Of—And Notes On—These Tablet PCs

It is apparent that Tablet PCs are starting to emerge into the mainstream and find their way into the hands of busy note takers! I no longer get those puzzeled looks or hard stares of curiosity. A screen that rotates and flips is no longer a great spectacle and the number of Tablet PCs I see on the street is increasing all the time!

The gap in performance and price has been narrowed and a convertible tablet is no longer a premium. There are many new and exciting models and with Ultimate versions of Vista having Tablet PC features built right the door is wide open for even more Tablet PC users.

PC Mag was slow to react to the Tablet PC initially but I think they are starting to realize the potential they just might have. They have another great wrap of some new models you might want to check out and for the most part seem to represent them accurately.

I am also surprised to see my very own Lenovo X41 Tablet PC still holding on to its crown which I question with availability of so many other new models. Over a year old now I am still loving my X41 but there is definetly a burning desire for a Core 2 Duo and a faster hard drive! Hopefully when I land that job next spring I'll be able to replace my current tablet friend with a snazzier Vista equipped version!

Check out the review to see some of the current models though!

My Relationship with MindManager

Today someone directly confronted me about my use of MindManager and I discovered a percepeption that I fear many others might have and therefore would like to take the time to address.

I do boast my appreciation and interest in MindManager quite often. Whether it may be on this blog, or in a classroom I often share my praise for MindManager as it has become infused in much of my life. It has provided excessive assistance in my GTD lifesyle and continues to grow with me as I make the transition from college student to business professional.

I don't use MindManager for everything though and I don't consider it to be the must have application for everyone. It has it's faults (I only wish I had time to share them with MindJet) as any program does but the benifts it provides for particular tasks like Brainstorming, organizing class notes, or becoming a digital inbox that securely holds all my creative ideas surely allow me to brag a bit about it every now and then. I don't expect everyone to all of a sudden start using it and quite frankly there are some people I would politely ask not to use it as their brain operates differently from the way a mind map works and feel they would be forcing themselves on a piece of software that is made to be free flowing and non restrictive.

I don't recieve a commission if you buy the software and I don't get paid to talk highly about it. I merely just wish to share my recomendation for something that has played a large role in my current life.

With that said I do in fact use MindManager everyday. It does sit on my desktop and I do use ResultsManager to manage my class tasks and assignments. (I still have to make a Dorko Demo of that!!!) I will continue to share my encounters with MindManager as time permits and look forward to taking it with me into the world of pharmaceuitical sales. At this time MindManager will not get me a job that allows me to showcase my talents but it does allow me to orgazine the information that will!

To end on a positive note I will leave you with a snap shot of my latest map that I used to orgazine all my notes from a recent test. Basically it is a map that has the central topic as the theme of the exam but then bifrucates off into seperate topics that relate to a specific lecture. It is just one of many instances where I actually use MindManager!

Hi Jason,

No need to be defensive. MindManager is a transformational technolgy that impacts my life everyday. I use it for both professional and personal productivity and am a little sad for those how don't "get it".

Good luck with your pharmaceutical sales aspirations but as a Sr Dir of Quality Systems for a small specialty pharma company it seems that you could leverage your obvious intelligence and communication skills more effectively in IT or Technical Operations.

Thanks for a great site,
R

Thanks for the comment! Again I wish more people would use it and I feel like I am a Technology Innovator in my own right! Now I just have to take it with me to the business world and hope to infuse the technology on more people there! :)

Yes my career path is an unusual one. I was implanted with the idea of dentistry for quite some time however I always knew I loved business. Becoming a dentist seemed like it would offer the perfect mix of these areas, combining my love of biology, physiology, and desire to assist others while running a successful business. My growth in business was stunted by this ideology and I continued down a path in biology for quite some time. I did pick up some CSE class down the road but it hasn't been till my last year that I decided to jump ship and follow my true passion. I am throwing a MIS minor into my bag of tricks in hopes that some documented business experience will help me in my job search. I would however love to get a degree in sales and marketing, an MBA or even some IT training to help in my efforts to lead others. I know once I am given the opportunity to showcase my skills in technology, science, business, and communication I will quickly move up the ranks. At the time being though it's all about establishing some credentials that will permit a company to invest in my enthusiastic nature. I thank you for your praise and I am very eager to see where I end up when all is said is done. The current arrow points towards a career in pharmaceutical sales but I will not stifle my skills if they wish to lead me in other directions later down the road.

Mapping out a Winning Sales Strategy

Here is another great MindJet webinar you can expect to find me at! Since I'm going into pharmaceutical/medical sales (still looking for that perfect job) a webinar on sales seems like a wonderful opportunity for me to discover some new strategies that I can deploy when I do find that perfect opportunity! I already plan to use my knowledge of MindManager and ResultsManager to organize my daily ventures as a re,p so combining MindManager with the selling aspect (at least to organize some strategies) will allow MindManager to assist in yet another aspect of my complex life.

I'll be attending it while at school in between class but I am sure it will be very informative just like all the other webinars!

Mapping out a Winning Sales Strategy
